How to Split Group Trip Costs
On any group trip, people naturally pay for different things — one person books the hotel, another covers the cab, a third pays for dinner. By the end, nobody remembers who's up and who's down. The fair way to settle is to look at what each person paid versus their fair share of the total, and move money only where there's a genuine imbalance.
This calculator does exactly that. Add everyone on the trip, then log each expense with who paid it. It totals each person's contributions, subtracts their share, and produces a net balance — positive if the group owes them, negative if they owe the group.
Then it does the part people get wrong by hand: minimising the payments. Rather than everyone paying everyone back, it nets the whole group down to the fewest possible transfers — usually just one or two payments clear the entire trip. That's fewer awkward UPI requests and no double-counting.
